Naftogaz ceases to be natural gas monopolist on October 1

KYIV, September 30 / Ukrinform./ Effective from October 1, 2015 new law on natural gas market comes into force which provides for Naftogaz of Ukraine to lose its monopoly status on suppling and salling of natural gas.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk told officials at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, according to a statement published on the governmental portal website.

"Naftogaz of Ukraine loses its monopoly status both in supplying and selling natural gas. We are actually building a fully European non-monopolized system of natural gas market, where an operator determines to whom to sell, and a buyer - from whom to buy the commodity," said the official.

Yatsenyuk noted that reforming the natural gas sector is one of the critical reforms implemented in Ukraine. This law, he said, "radically changes the whole system of coordinates and the entire natural gas market."
